Nursing, administrative and household support provided by professional carers for you and your environment. For a short or longer period, after surgery or illness, or in case of physical, psychological or social problems.

Home nursing

Professional support from nurses for medical care at home, for a short or long period. Helan nurses provide care tailored to your needs. They visit at agreed times and take the time needed for your care.

Home respite care

You can engage a volunteer care assistant to help ease daily concerns, as a carer or as a complement to professional care. For this support, Helan works together with the respite care service of i-mens. A home respite carer supports you in various ways:

  • providing companionship
  • supervising and keeping watch when the carer is temporarily absent
  • support with meals: heating food, helping with eating, washing up
  • doing groceries, for you or together with you

Non-urgent medical transport

Non-urgent medical transport is the transport of a sick or less mobile person to a healthcare facility. Helan organises this transport in cooperation with i-mens. Request non-urgent patient transport by phone via T. 02 218 22 22. Depending on your health condition, we organise:

  • seated transport
  • adapted (wheelchair) transport
  • or stretcher transport

With Helan Household Help, you can count on a motivated and well-trained domestic helper. Cleaning or ironing help, or both, just as you prefer.

If you are no longer able to cook for yourself, you can have a hot meal delivered to your home. We work together with local public social welfare centres (OCMWs), several private caterers, and our partner i-mens.

Occupational therapy advice

Our occupational therapists look together with you at the challenges you are facing and search for a suitable solution. This includes information about costs, preparing a quotation, and in some cases even ordering materials.

Here is what we can do for you:

  • Home adaptations: we provide advice on home modifications and/or aids that make daily life easier.

  • Fall prevention: we give you tips to help prevent falls at home.

  • Financial advice: we prepare a file with the Flemish Agency for Persons with a Disability (VAPH) if you need specific aids or adaptations due to a disability.

Do you need support in mapping out your care needs? Our social workers are happy to help you get started. You can also contact the advisors at the Healthcare Shop. But above all, listen carefully to yourself.

What do you need? Do not settle too quickly, but ask questions. Only when you have heard multiple options and asked for advice from different organisations can you make the right choice. It takes time to inform yourself properly, but you are worth it.
