Is hospitalisation insurance compulsory?
In Belgium it is mandatory to join a health insurance fund. However, it is not mandatory to purchase hospitalisation insurance. Nevertheless, there are many advantages to hospitalisation insurance. Read more about it on this page.
Is hospitalisation insurance mandatory?
As mentioned, hospitalisation insurance is not mandatory. However, it is a good idea to have it. That way you are protected against hospital costs that are not covered by social security. Think of expenses associated with childbirth or (unexpected) surgery. Did you know that every year, one in two families in Belgium is faced with a hospital admission? So make sure you are adequately prepared by purchasing hospitalisation insurance.
What are the advantages of having hospitalisation insurance?
Reliable hospitalisation insurance ensures that you don't have to worry about hospital bills. Whether it is a day admission or a prolonged hospitalisation.
What exactly hospitalisation insurance does for you and in what situations you can rely on it depends on the policy you choose. Will you opt for Hospitalia, Hospitalia Medium or Hospitalia Plus? Compare which of the three policies is best suits for you.
What is hospitalisation insurance?
Hospitalisation insurance is supplementary insurance for hospital expenses. Since statutory health insurance does not cover all the costs of your hospitalisation, the cost to you personally can quickly add up.
Good hospitalisation insurance protects you and your family from these extra expenses. It is important to purchase hospitalisation insurance in good time. That is because, from the moment you purchase insurance, a standard waiting period of six months will apply.
